Expert-Driven Development
Open-Source AI-Assisted Development Training for DoW Personnel
What Is Expert-Driven Development?
Expert-Driven Development is a four-layer framework that turns subject-matter experts into AI-fluent builders who create, document, and scale institutional tools for their organizations.
Train
Develop AI-fluent builders. Teach personnel how to communicate with AI tools effectively so they can turn domain expertise into working software.
Build
Create institutional tools using AI. Personnel build real applications that solve real problems in their units, using AI as the development accelerator.
Document
Ensure continuity and replication. Every build is documented so others can maintain, modify, and learn from the work after the builder moves on.
Scale
Spread capability organically. Trained builders teach others, and proven tools get adopted across units without top-down mandates.
Use AI to build things that don't need AI. The tools last. The AI was just how we built them.
Course Catalog
Six courses cover every role, from first-time AI users to experienced builders to supervisors evaluating proposals.
AI Fluency Fundamentals
The universal prerequisite. Teaches the six applied judgment skills that separate sustained AI adopters from the 80% who quit. No tool-building. No coding. Just the management skills that research shows predict AI adoption.
Builder Orientation
For people who want to go beyond daily AI use and build tools. Hands-on building from start to finish. Live builds, debugging, and problem decomposition.
Platform Training
Build three complete tools on Power Platform practicing both centaur and cyborg work patterns. This is where students become capable of producing deployable tools.
Advanced Workshop
Move from individual to organizational capability. Frontier mapping, complex builds, verification protocols, group debugging, and teaching methodology.
Supervisor Orientation
The highest-leverage 30 minutes in the program. Learn to create permission culture, evaluate AI-assisted output, and preserve junior development.
Full-Stack AI-Assisted Development
The capstone. Build and deploy a complete web application from zero — Go backend, React frontend, AI chat, auth, Docker, and cloud deployment. 8 hours of building exactly what Heywood TBS was built with.
Self-paced learner? Access Student Course Materials to work through courses independently or follow along during live instruction.
Get Started
Three steps from zero to building.
- Read the SOP. Understand the framework, the approval process, and what a good project proposal looks like. Read the Standard Operating Procedure.
- Take the training. Start with AI Fluency Fundamentals. Two hours, no prerequisites, and you will leave understanding how to work with AI effectively. Browse courses.
- Pick a problem and build. Identify a workflow bottleneck in your unit, write a project proposal, and use the Toolkit to start building.
